What have you done for me lately?

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Ps 103:2

We humans are so remiss in our flawed memories. I think of Israel in the wilderness and how utterly senile they were. About all they could ever remember was how yummy the leeks and garlics were in Egypt. But they could never remember the miracles from the previous week. Oh, little things, like a parted sea, water from a rock, quail and manna from heaven.

We aren't so unlike them. God's benefits to us are so great and so frequent that we get used to them, expect them and eventually, we forget them. Little things like free air to breathe, strength to labor, family to enjoy, food to cram down our throats, nice housing, decent rides to and from all of the great activities we have, a pretty good country to live in, and a pretty cool church to attend. Wow! And these are just the basics. All benefits from the hand of God to undeserving sinners.

O my soul, don't be forgetting all these goodies!
