Today (May 17) is Law Enforcement Memorial Day

Law Enforcement Memorial Prayer – May 17, 2011

Almighty God and Father of mankind, it is because of thy great mercy that we are not consumed, thy compassion faileth not.

As we gather here on this solemn occasion, we acknowledge thee as our Creator, our Redeemer and our coming King.

We feel deeply indebted to those who offer themselves up for the safety and well-being of others. Thy beloved Son is the chief example of One Who gave His life that others might live.

Our military and our firefighters come to mind when we consider the selfless act of ultimate sacrifice on behalf of others.

But today, we pause to remember the brave men and women of law enforcement. They donned the badge and the uniform. Their commission was to serve and protect their community. But their service resulted in their untimely and unfortunate deaths.

Their passing leaves a void in our world, but their heroism leaves our world a much better place. Therefore we venerate them in this ceremony, in our hearts and in our memories.

Lord of lords, crown their memories with blessing and honor. Instill in our hearts and minds a deep and abiding respect for their ultimate sacrifice.

And for these and all your favors we give thanks. We pray in the name of our blessed Lord and Savior, Amen!
