Help Somebody Today

Mat 18:3  And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5  And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6  But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7  Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

To offend is to cause another person to stumble. Our command is to offend not, neither by word or by deed.

I must be getting old! I was is a home improvement store the other day, in the lighting department (should have been able to see!), pushing my cart along, when all the sudden I tripped over a little strip of rubber that was the border between the main aisle and this department. It must have been a whole 3/4" thick.  I never even saw it before my toe caught it and I nearly went sprawling on the concrete.

My immediate thought was, why would they put that there? What if some old person came shuffling through here and tripped over that thing? Then it hit me, I WAS that old person!

We have an opportunity to assist little old souls over rough spots in life. We can help as a stepping stone for those needing to get through treacherous areas. But sometimes, with careless words or thoughtless actions, we are stumbling blocks rather than that stepping stone. And let's be honest, some of those times that we offend (trip up) others, it is blatant and on purpose.

God wants to use us to help, not harm, to build, not tear down, to assist, not offend.

Look all around you, find someone in need,
Help somebody today!
Though it be little—a neighborly deed—
Help somebody today!
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended,
The friendless befriended,
O help somebody today!
Many are waiting a kind, loving word,
Help somebody today!
Thou hast a message, O let it be heard,
Help somebody today!
Many have burdens too heavy to bear,
Help somebody today!
Grief is the portion of some everywhere,
Help somebody today!
Some are discouraged and weary in heart,
Help somebody today!
Someone the journey to Heaven should start,
Help somebody today!
Help somebody today,
Somebody along life’s way;
Let sorrow be ended,
The friendless befriended,
O help somebody today!
