Luke 2:37 And she was a widow of
about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night
and day.
Anna was 84. No doubt, there wasn't a whole lot of physical activity
she could do to serve the Lord. But in her advanced age, there was a great
service she could yet do for the Lord…she could fast and pray around the house
of the Lord.
Don't discount the ministry of prayer! It is the greatest resource of
the believer. It is the great and mostly untapped power of the universe. Add
fasting to the equation and it's power is increased exponentially.
So, when you feel you can't do much else, pray! Pray for open doors
that the gospel might be preached. Pray for the pastor, the church and its
family, the poor and needy, those in leadership, missionaries, the persecuted,
and pray for our nation. Leaf through the newspaper and find those on every
page in need of someone praying for them.
You are doing a great ministry when you pray!
