Where’s the Fruit?

Matt 7:20  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

A trip to a church altar,
A dunk in the river
A prayer born of emotion,
Or a sudden religious shiver,

Money dropped into the plate,
A Baptist pedigree
A family that’s called Christian,
Or a seminary degree,

A Bible on the coffee table,
Dinner prayers that are said
Clothes that fit the by-laws,
Proper hair-do on the head.

But can one attain heaven
Whose life is not in Christ?
Will sins be washed away
Without the Way, the Truth, the Life?

If one’s faith can get them out of bed
On a weekly Sunday morn
Can we assume they even had the faith
From heaven to be reborn?

If a person’s life is just the same
As what it was before
If there is no evidence
They have bowed and made Him Lord.

Then the lack of fruit shows
There’s been no real big change
For we’re promised that when He’s made Lord,
Then all is rearranged.

Don’t tell us how saved you are
By some little prayer you’ve said
But show us by the fruit you bear
And how Jesus is your Head!

Forgive me if you think I judge
That isn’t my intent
I’m just searching for a little fruit
I wonder where it went.
