The Father Mothers Us So

Isa 49:15  Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. 16  Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands;

In all the busyness of her life, a new mother puts a heavy priority on her infant child. Its comfort and care are her sole concern. She awakes in the wee hours to care for her little one. She changes, feeds, bathes and soothes its helpless body and manages its little life.

Is there anything that would make a decent mom forget her child?

I am reminded of the stories of those charged with picking up a primary student from school, maybe a dad or uncle or aunt, and then forgetting their responsibility, leaving that child sitting on the school steps all alone. But never a mother!!!!

In the news, we have been informed of addicted parents who neglect their children in favor of their fixation. We have heard of the horror of adults leaving their children in the car while they went into the casino to gamble away the family’s finances.

But never the loving, caring, nurturing mom! Her charge is that child.

And so God watches over His children. He nurtures them, meeting their needs, helping them in their helplessness. In infancy, He provides the milk of the Word and in adulthood, the meat of the same. He prepares their path, leads them along that path and guides, guards and awaits them at the end.

Lest the all-knowing God could somehow forget, He engraves our very names on the palm of His hand. You might say, we have a prominent entry into His Palm Pilot.

He won't forget you, dear believer. He won't leave you to flounder. He goes before you, with you and guards your rearward. He is always above to cover you and beneath you are His everlasting arms to catch you when you fall. Your every need He considers and supplies. He promises never to leave you nor forsake you. The loving Lord will also not slack in your discipline. Even there, He knows and provides you with what is best for you.

Oh, how our Heavenly Father mothers us so!
