Gen 21:15 And the
water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. 16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a
bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over
against him, and lift up her
voice, and wept.
Gen 21:20 And God
was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an
archer.
Both mom and
child wept. But it was the voice of the lad that got heaven's attention.
I find it
interesting that:
1. Hagar threw
her little boy under the bushes ("cast"). He was old enough to mock
his little half-brother at his birthday party, but not old enough to care for
himself. I would imagine, about 3 or 4.
2. She removed
herself about a bow shot away so she couldn't hear his cries. I would estimate
that to be anywhere between 50 and 100 yards. Ironically, he became adept as an
archer (20). Only God...!!! Of course, his grandkids would leave of the use of
the bow and prefer RPGs and AKs.
3. As foretold
by God, he (his prodigy) would become a
wild man: his hand will be
against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the
presence of all his brethren. (see Islam)
