Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Lazarus passed from this life and went directly to Paradise. After the resurrection of Christ, believers who part from the body go directly to heaven to the presence of God. As Paul said in II Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The contrasts between eternities are stark:
1. One was carried, one was buried. (Carried by angels, the other, no doubt, drug by demons)
2. One was comforted, one was tormented. There will never be a let up!
3. One is with the Father, one is eternally separated.
4. One looks to a future of blessedness, one can only dwell on the past and his cursedness.
Friend, is your eternity settled? Have you accepted Christ as your substitute? Or are you living only for this life and its comforts and riches? You now have a choice. Once you die, you no longer have a say concerning your eternity. Get right with God today!
*Note: this is a Baptist blog relying on the veracity of the Bible and the words of our Lord Jesus Christ. You may have other notions about the future state of the soul, but we will trust in our Lord's declaration. Our intent is to bring people to Jesus, whether by being drawn by His love and the prompting of the Holy Ghost or by being warned of sure and certain doom. But thanks for reading.
