The Guy in the Girdle

(Sorry, I know this is not the picture you wished to see today!  :<)

Jer 13:7  Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing. 8  Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9  Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10  This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing. 11  For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

As long as the girdle is close to the body, it is of use, but when taken away, abused and misused, it becomes marred and worthless.

Same with us! As long as we stay close to the Lord and His body, the local church, we are of use. But once we distance ourselves from Christ and His bride, we are used and abused by the devil and this world and become good for nothing except for an object lesson to others of what not to do.

I would rather be wrapped around Christ in the safe harbor of His body of believers than to be stuffed in a hole in a rock on the banks of the Euphrates any day.

Stay close to Him and be good for something!

  1. AMEN PG! This has been one of my favorite passages for some time. It was their pride and ours that renders them/us useless, marred & foul. Humility = useful & usable! GREAT word here! It's ALWAYS BEST to be IN Him, this way we are always near Him, full of Him and willing to share Him! Hey, after all, it's alllll about Him anyway! ;-D
