The Meaning of the Parable of the Good Samaritan

Luke 10:30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

The man who fell among thieves represents the poor sinner, unable to save himself. Mankind is half dead, alive in body but dead spiritually. 30

The priest and the Levite represent the law and religion which are powerless to save. 32-32

The Samaritan is Jesus, in a sense, a half breed...Heavenly Father and earthly mother. He came to where we were and had compassion on us. 33

He saved us, by His stripes we are healed. The oil and the wine represent the Holy Spirit and the blood of Jesus. The inn is the church which cares for the reborn sinner. 34

The two pence are the Old and New Testaments which are given to the host, the pastor to care for us until repayment is made at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Be like Jesus, this my song,
In the home and in the throng;
Be like Jesus, all day long!
I would be like Jesus.

You have to love the symbolism in the parables, well, all through Scriptures really. That's why we'll be studying them throughout eternity.

Let's not forget our duty as Jesus' followers, to represent Him, and like the good Samaritan, be the good neighbor in the story to ANY who are in need of Him.

I was shocked to see how you interpreted the parable so well. Many think that the good samaritan is us, when in reality its Jesus. What Jesus wanted from the lawyer was for him to recognize that he could not do anything good by himself. The only one who can truly save us is Jesus. That is why in thia parable we are the man who fell among the thieves. Many of us are lost in this world due to sin, but once we realize that Jesus died on the cross for all of our sins, and that there is nothing more for us to do, then we can rest. That is why Jesus sat on the right hand side of God, because he finished our sin at the cross. Now we can only live been grateful for what he has done for us. We only need to share the gospel to those around us, and god will be the one who works inside of them.
