Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
The Lord is reiterating His recent parables:
*The Householder's vineyard, Matt 21:33-41
*The King's invitation to the marriage of his son, Matt 22:1-14
The servants in both stories represent the true prophets of the Lord, sent to carry His message. Each time, the messengers were mistreated.
Leonard Ravenhill said, "If Jesus had preached the same message that ministers preach today, He would never have been crucified."
In other words, few prophets today are worthy of the persecution that abused the prophets of old. They are not faithful with the message entrusted to them of the Sender.
May those whom God has called to ministry grow a backbone, stand and faithfully deliver the words God has given them!
