Deception and Apostasy

Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Implied facts:
These lies have been hatched in the pits of hell and in wicked hearts, but there are more to come.
These lies are part of an insidious, aggressive plan aiming at apostasy.
There are men foreordained to spreading these wicked lies.
There is a purpose for the lies: to detract from Christ and His coming.
There is a possibility that believers can be drawn away from the truth by deception.

What must we take away from this? We need to take heed! (pay attention, be mindful, regardful, be on notice).
