Wrong-Headed Thinking

Wrong-headed Thinking that is Ineffective, Counterproductive and Unscriptural. The Bible lists several examples of the wrong kind of thinking. Be careful what you think, for as we think, we are.

1.     Thinking that persecuting Christians is doing God a favor.
Jn 16:2  They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

2.     Thinking that trusting self is going to do any good.
Php 3:4  Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

3.     Thinking you are indestructible.
1Co 10:12  Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

4.     Thinking you can go against God’s kingdom and have a chance of winning.
2Ch 13:8  And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

5.     Thinking you can escape responsibility and accountability.
Est 4:13  Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.

6.     Thinking you can erase the reality of God from the minds of His children.
Jer 23:27  Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.

7.     Thinking you can make it on the merits of your heritage.
Mat 3:9  And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

8.     Thinking your vain repetitions are going to get God’s attention.
Mat 6:7  But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

9.     Thinking that Jesus is all about warm fuzzies.
Mat 10:34  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

10.  Thinking that the Lord is not returning.
Lk 12:40  Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

11.  Thinking that people who have bad things happen to them deserved what they had coming.
Lk 13:4  Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

12. Thinking you are all that and more.
Rom 12:3  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Gal 6:3  For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

13. Thinking you know it all and have nothing more to learn.
1Co 8:2  And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

14. Thinking little of the worth of others in the church.
1Cor 12:23  And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

15. Thinking that your set of problems is unique.
1Pet 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

16. Thinking that the Lord is not passionate about you.
James 4:5  Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

If our thinking is skewed, we need to get into the Word, truth's anchor and renew our minds.

Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Phil 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Phil 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
