Rotten Roots and Dusty Blooms

Isa 5:24  Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

Once a people cast off the laws of God and despise the Word of the Lord, their path to their ruin    is set.

We are able to sing of "purple mountain's majesty above the fruited plain" because our nation has been blessed for its righteous roots, its care for the world and its missionary fervor. But how things have changed!

As Isaiah rebuked Judah, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!" 5:20-23, so our nation merits such reproof. She now teeters on the precipice of Divine judgment.

The rottenness of our misdeeds will spread even to the roots of our agriculture. Even our blossoms will go up as dust, unless we humble ourselves, pray, turn from our wicked ways and seek the face of the Father.

The Prophet Ezekiel's words ring through the ages unto us, Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 33:11
