Being Tempted of the Devil

Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

For 40 days our Lord was assaulted by Satan. Satan tried to appeal to the desires of the flesh (hunger), the eyes (kingdoms of the earth) and the pride of life (cast from the pinnacle of the temple). In this, Jesus could say that He was tried in every point, like as we are and yet, without sin.

Though we pray that we would not be led into temptation, we can each expect regular
visits from the emissaries of evil enticing us to succumb to sin.

Praise God that our High Priest, Jesus, knows all about our struggles, He's been there. The only difference is, He faced temptation and failed not. Therefore, He knows how to help us in time of temptation if we will but look to Him during these times of testing.

Hint: Jesus used the Word of God to counter each temptation thrown at Him by the
devil. Notice His responses: "It is written" "It is written" and "It is said."

The next time you are assaulted by temptation, be sure to use the Word of God, the
Sword of the Spirit, as your weapon.
