Wouldn't Have...

Peter would have never walked on the water if he hadn’t got out of the boat.

The giant would have never been slain if David wouldn’t have slung the stone.

Israel would still be in slavery if Moses had never thrown down his cane.

Israel would never have been a nation if Abraham wouldn’t have left Ur.

We would never have been saved if Jesus wouldn’t have left the throne.

Oh, and I wouldn't have 100,000 page views sometime today or tomorrow if I hadn't written my first blog.

Is there something you should be doing that you are not because you just never took that first step? As my mom used to say when we played cards, "I guess I'll take a chance, Columbus did!"

Feasting on the Riches of His Word

Luke 4:4  And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

You CANNOT grow in the grace of God unless you are daily in the Word, feeding on the healthy milk, meat and the bread of life. I am baffled by the many believers who neglect the daily reading, study and meditation of His holy Word.

I have often thought what it would be like if, instead of seeing a person's outward appearance, we saw the person's soul. Wow! Many a saint's soul would appear to be shriveled and emaciated due to lack of spiritual caloric intake.

Martin Luther well said, “God is everywhere. However, He does not want you to reach out for Him everywhere but only in the Word. Reach out for it and you will grasp Him aright. Otherwise you are tempting God and setting up idolatry. That is why He has established a certain method for us. This teaches us how and where we are to look for Him and find Him, namely, in the Word.”

Hey, blow the dust off of your Bible, crack the Book and discover anew the living, powerful, razor-edged Word that God has for you today.

Serving God with Fastings and Prayers

Luke 2:37  And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

Anna was 84. No doubt, there wasn't a whole lot of physical activity she could do to serve the Lord. But in her advanced age, there was a great service she could yet do for the Lord…she could fast and pray around the house of the Lord.

Don't discount the ministry of prayer! It is the greatest resource of the believer. It is the great and mostly untapped power of the universe. Add fasting to the equation and it's power is increased exponentially.

So, when you feel you can't do much else, pray! Pray for open doors that the gospel might be preached. Pray for the pastor, the church and its family, the poor and needy, those in leadership, missionaries, the persecuted, and pray for our nation. Leaf through the newspaper and find those on every page in need of someone praying for them.

You are doing a great ministry when you pray!

Touch not Mine Anointed!

Mar 14:46  And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

...neither do my prophets harm.

Can you imagine the eternal fate of those who arrested Jesus and abused Him all the way through unto the crucifixion? Unless, of course, like the centurion, they confessed, "Truly, this was the Son of God!"

How many times have I seen it now, some wicked person tries to do harm to a man of God and they meet with some horrible end? Imagine harming God's ultimate Anointed One, the Messiah.

Power Nap

Mar 14:37  And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 38  Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39  And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40  And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. 41  And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42  Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

I doubt the disciples got much sleep for many days to come. Arrest, trial, crucifixion, hiding out in the upper room, the resurrection, the appearances of the risen Lord, the Great Commission…so many things that would keep them lying awake with eyes wide open for a while.

That little nap in Gethsemane had to suffice for a long time.

Although, it would have been much more appropriate for this apostolic trio to be in prayer, someone once wisely said, "Sometimes, one of the most spiritual things we can do is to take a nap."

And to that, I say, "Amen!!!"
